In regards to battery life, I never found the need to charge my iPad throughout the day as long as it was fully charged in the morning, and I was averaging around 5-7 hours of notetaking / just using my iPad to consume media throughout the day and I would still have ~50% battery left. I found when reviewing for exams and tests if I wanted to flip through more than 2 sets of notes, you'd have to open the notes in your google drive, as the Notability split-screen has a max of 2 notes open at the same time. The one "problem" I have with using an iPad for school is more based around the app that I use for notetaking - Notability. I did find using a PaperLike screen protector helped me get used to writing on the iPad, although that is an expensive AF screen protector that wears out over time/use. Back in HS in the States, I saw a big improvement in the grades I was getting on my quizzes and exams and I also found that the notes that I took during lectures were more comprehensive and neater once I got used to the feeling of using the Apple Pencil. I honestly cannot recommend it enough for schoolwork, although I haven't been able to experience using it for university lectures as I am supposed to start my first year at Exeter this fall.

I have a 2018 11" iPad Pro and the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil that I have used for near 2 years for school. You can use a scanner app on your phone to scan notes to pdfs, which can then be uploaded to Google Drive (either manually or automatically if the scanner app has integration).įor iOS, Scanner Pro by Readdle is the best by far, and it has Google Drive auto-upload. I would probably stick with your laptop, then use pen and paper for diagrams and mathematical notes. This is before you even consider that an iPad Air would be much better value for money. They're also much more expensive than iPads are, even when comparing the Surface Pro 7 to the iPad Pro 2020. The most glaring issue is that the trackpad is tiny compared to most modern laptops. The Surface is a better laptop than it is a tablet, but it's still poor in some areas compared to traditional laptops.

Windows isn't really designed for tablets, and it definitely shows in many areas. You already have a laptop, and the iPad is simply better at functioning as a tablet than the Surface. I would disagree with the notion that the Surface would be better than an iPad.
