In regards to battery life, I never found the need to charge my iPad throughout the day as long as it was fully charged in the morning, and I was averaging around 5-7 hours of notetaking / just using my iPad to consume media throughout the day and I would still have ~50% battery left. I found when reviewing for exams and tests if I wanted to flip through more than 2 sets of notes, you'd have to open the notes in your google drive, as the Notability split-screen has a max of 2 notes open at the same time. The one "problem" I have with using an iPad for school is more based around the app that I use for notetaking - Notability. They're also much more expensive than iPads are, even when comparing the Surface Pro 7 to the iPad Pro 2020. The most glaring issue is that the trackpad is tiny compared to most modern laptops. The Surface is a better laptop than it is a tablet, but it's still poor in some areas compared to traditional laptops.
